Macro Middle Micro, 2000

This project was conceived and executed as part of an academic studio investigating the project of archiving New York City in the digital age. In Anarchive=City+Archive, we addressed the challenge of archiving tangible and intangible aspects of the city from conceptual, social, political, and technical perspectives.I demarcated three levels of motion in the city, and focused my process of collection on capturing this motion on videotape. My process of collection in shaped the interface which would operate as a lens through which to view the archive. The moving images displayed in each layer of this piece correspond to the three levels of motion, and cursor movement into each layer rotates images out from the database with another from the same level of motion, while also replacing the image in the layer just above.
