Portraits in Light, 2007
Video Documentation
Portraits of Light is an installation of multi-tiered lightboxes, and was part of the Greater Good exhibition in Philadelphia, March 2007. Asked to think about the concept of the Greater Good in the context of a building condemned to allow for an expanding convention center, I photographed the people and landscape of the surrounding neighborhood and brought them to life in the form of lightboxes. Each box has three transparent images, each image the same scene slightly changed over time. The intention was to create a sense of time passing and motion in an otherwise static presentation, and to immerse the viewer in a culture slowly being eroded by inevitable gentrification. Materials include chipboard, transparency, high luminosity LEDs, and batteries.
